About Dokterswacht Friesland
Emergency GP care in the evening, night and weekends
Dokterswacht Friesland is there for emergency GP care during the evenings, nights, weekends and holidays for residents and visitors in Friesland. We are there for medical questions that cannot wait until the next working day when our own GP is back.
Dokterswacht Friesland was founded in 2002 on the initiative of the Frisian General Practitioners Association. About 300 Frisian general practitioners are now affiliated with us.
How Dokterswacht Friesland works
At the TriageCenter of Dokterswacht Friesland, our triage nurses take incoming calls. Triage nurses are usually doctor’s assistants who have completed additional training to become a triage nurse. They are knowledgeable and well able to assess the seriousness of the complaint and call in the right help.
This can be a telephone advice or we ask the patient to visit a General Practitioner. If necessary, our GPs visit patients at home. Sometimes we send patients directly to the Emergency Room of the Hospital.
Patients can only visit one of our GP emergency stations in Dokkum, Drachten, Heerenveen, Leeuwarden and Sneek by appointment. The GP emergency stations are close to hospitals (with the exception of Dokkum), with which we work closely.
Focus on quality
In everything we do, the interests of our patients come first. We are constantly working on providing the best care at an acceptable cost. With a focus on quality, we contribute to better GP emergency care and never lose sight of patient safety. Dokterswacht Friesland is transparent and accountable for the policy and care provided.
